Since users can disable analytics, almost everyone is doing it.
Results: we are unable to know if a new version of the application is well deployed/used.
For the record, we had only 3 people using Drive 4.4.4 beta (reported by Google Analytics) at the time we decided to promote it to an official release.
We cannot continue that way.
Nuxeo needs primary metrics: application and OS versions.
Those are simple transparent and anonymous details.
But we need them in order to better control our release flow.
They will also be required in order to better control OS support dropping.
One can see those primary metrics as primary cookies on websites: you can choose to enable some cookies, but primary ones will not be disabled.
This is transparent and harmless for the user, and also GDPR-compliant.
I checked with Gregory Carlin and everything is right in that approach. Even better, we are not required to alert the user of that change.
